Richard Coniff in today's New York Times Editorial: "Abolish All Taxes"
Tip of the Hat
Richard Coniff
"It’s time to take a page from the conservative playbook, the one where they reframe the debate by changing the language — for instance, calling the “estate tax” a “death tax,” or making equal rights for same-sex partners a “protection of marriage” issue. I propose we stop saying “taxes” and start calling them “dues.” "

I think that Ray Coniff is on to reframing in his suggestion of calling taxes, dues because of the root orgins of the words and the connection of their meanings to people, at least in the United States. In fact he uses the term "reframe the debate", so he has to be aware or read Dr. Lakoff's work.
